Since receiving a Grammy nomination for her vocal contribution to The Roots hit “Don’t Feel Right” in 2007, the singer, emcee, and songwriter Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh has been making waves in the Indie music scene as a solo artist and is only just beginning.
She released her first Solo EP, ‘Black Magic Woman,’ independently in March of 2011, and her highly anticipated and widely praised first full-length solo album, ‘The Blooming,’ in September of the same year. Maimouna’s 2014 project, “The Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh,” showcased her sharp rhyming skills as an emcee and her strong commitment to providing a balanced perspective on current social, racial, political, gender and class issues.
In 2016 Maimouna recorded a full-length project with Grammy Award Winning producer 9th Wonder and The Soul Council. Most recently she has released a full-length album with producer DJ Dummy entitled Vintage Babies released in August of 2017. The album is already making its wave through the international Indie music scene. In the summer of 2017, Maimouna Youssef and her trio were selected to represent the US and travel abroad to Central America teaching the history of American Music and engaging in cultural exchange with internationally renowned artists from Nicaragua, Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. She will be embarking on that musical journey from a Month in October leading into November 2017. There’s so much on the horizon for Maimouna Youssef’s rising star.
Vintage Babies is the title of the collaborative album created by Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and MC, Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh and producer, Dj, and musical director Dj Dummy The Genius collectively known as The Vintage Babies. The Vintage Babies’ album consists of 17 soul and hip hop head bangers and features musical greats like Grammy & Oscar award winning Common, as well as some incredible songwriting and vocal help from Top Dawg’s own SIR, Malik Yusef, and Baltimore’s Rose Gold from the Polly seeds.
