Who Is Kadeem Tyrell…
British R&B/Soul Singer Kadeem Tyrell is making waves in the UK music scene. Born and Raised in Battersea. Kadeem Tyrell epitomises the alternative sound that is currently on the rise, described as soothing alternative soul & effortless R&B. Heavily influenced by A Tribe Called Quest, Aaliyah, Brandy & many more artists from the 90’s era, Tyrell put pen to paper at the young age of 14, challenging his writing skills and seeing how far he could take his vocal skills.
Raised in the church community, it was inevitable that Kadeem’s love for music would grow. His family is filled with musical talent. His Mother and Aunts were Gospel singers and His father a DJ, allowing Kadeem to be exposed to all genres of music, including lovers rock, Rare Groove and other music of the 80’s whilst growing up.
In 2015, Kadeem debuted his vocals by featuring on a track with East London’s Producer Nat Brown ‘Memories’. The Track was heavily supported by DJ EZ and many more DJ’s across the Garage scene. In 2016 Tyrell teamed up with Chelmsford Garage Producer RYN and released a smooth 5 Track EP titled Fooled, full of what has been described as ‘Feel Good Music’. Aiming to establish his music amongst many of the greats, Kadeem has garnered a buzz and is compared to some of London’s finest such as NAO, Sampha, MNEK and releases ‘Let Me Know’ in 2018 to start the year with a bang.
Where Kadeem has growth potential as a writer is perhaps in the need for catchier, more melodic hooks, so that the story arrangements and song memorability match the vocal and lyrical talent. For instance, a simmering jam like “Let Me Know” is well sung, but is almost too derivative of the kind of early 2000s made signature by artists like Musiq Soulchild, Maxwell and Raheem Devaughn. Even as a nod to tradition, there is little unique that makes the cut stick. Of a different track, of these otherwise well-considered songs, the upbeat “Moon” feels an outlier on this project. Unlike the soulful Neo infused style of all the other mature material, the more mid-tempo cut is sung in a totally different, more hip hop-meets-soul sing-talk vocal, and its tone and approach are more vengeful and biting. “Loyalty Loyalty Loyalty” is well-produced, and the vocals feels perfect on this track.
A little birdie told us about the collaboration with the talented US singer/Songwriter Minni Manchester. Something to hold on to your hats for…
Overall, we predict great things for Kadeem Tyrell in his musical journey.
